Abner Jones died at his residence 5 miles north of the city on Saturday morning May 31, 1879, of a complication of diseases. He was married twice: first to Mary Simpson on April 23, 1829 and to Elizabeth Baldwin, his surviving wife on March 10, 1844. Mr. Jones was a resident of Montgomery County for exactly 49 years. He was a man of strict business integrity and widely known by our people. He leaves a wife and 9 children all married and away from home except two.
